A Jackson police officer who has been accused of stealing money from a robbery victim's home, was arrested Saturday and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm while under the influence and violation of the open container law, according to an affidavit.
Marvent Agusta Brooks appeared in Jackson City Court today and is free on $2,500 bond.
The affidavit said Brooks was observed squatting down beside a vehicle parked behind a closed business at 1434 S. Highland at 3 a.m. Saturday. He was slumped over into the passenger seat.
Authorities said there was a handgun laying in the front seat and an open beer bottle sitting behind the driver's seat on the floor board.
The affidavit said Brooks said he had been drinking and acknowledged that the gun was his. He was taken into custody on the charges.
