Bradley D. Wentworth: A veteran’s affair
Persian Gulf War veterans beware
This past September, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs announced new presumptives for Gulf War Vetererans:
* Chronic fatigue syndrome
* Fibromyalgia
* Irritable bowel syndrome
* Undiagnosed illnesses with symptoms that may include but are not limited to: abnormal weight loss, cardiovascular symptoms, fatigue, gastrointestinal symptoms, headache, joint pain, menstrual disorders, muscle pain, neurologic symptoms, neuropsychological symptoms, skin conditions, upper and lower respiratory system symptoms, and sleep disturbances.
This is as important to Gulf War veterans as the presumptives of exposure to “Agent Orange” is to Vietnam War veterans of the 60s and 70s, but with a unique twist. Unlike Vietnam veterans, who have to prove they had “boots on ground,” Gulf War veterans do not have to have stepped on actual soil.
